According to a source to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Detroit Lions have released Nate Sudfeld from the roster. With this move, Hendon Hooker has won the backup quarterback job for the Lions. Hooker performed much better in the preseason than Sudfeld did.

Sudfeld completed 52.9% of his passes for 292 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions. As for Hendon Hooker, he completed 60.0% of his passes for 114 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Hooker was also able to provide a rushing game element to his arsenal and provide energy for the offense when he was in the game.

It will be interesting to see which NFL team will want to sign Nate Sudfeld to their roster after teams finalize their 53-man rosters by 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday. Sudfield was drafted in the sixth round (187th overall pick) in the 2016 NFL Draft by the Washington Commanders. He is 30 years old and also has played for the Philadelphia Eagles in the past.

There are a lot of happy Detroit Lions fans on Tuesday with them keeping Hooker instead of Sudfeld. This is what some of the fans had to say about it on Twitter:

It would be interesting to see if in a couple of years from now if Hendon Hooker is the future quarterback for the Detroit Lions. They recently gave Jared Goff a contract extension. Also, Nate Sudfeld could wind up back on the Detroit Lions practice squad.
