The Detroit Lions have one of the most unique draft positions in the history of the NFL. After having an above .500 season, they find themselves with two picks in the top 20 thanks to the Matthew Stafford trade. This gives the team an opportunity to get a top prospect and add him to an already good team. The Lions reportedly “really like” Tyree Wilson, a defensive end out of Texas Tech.

Detroit Lions “Really Like” Tyree Wilson
The Lions haven’t revealed much about where they are thinking of going with the number six overall pick. However, I think it is likely they look toward the defense. It was the one aspect of the team that really struggled and Aiden Hutchinson is the only above-average player on the defensive line. Getting Wilson would give the Lions a one-two punch on the edges and hopefully increase the amount of pressure on opposing quarterbacks. Reports are saying they could look this way.
“The Lions have spent considerable time and resources meeting with and working out pass-rushers this offseason, and they will be seeking more help on defense right out of the gate in Round 1.”
Is Getting Wilson A Reach At Six?
Wilson is by no means a perfect player. He plays a little tall and does not get off the ball well. His production is good but not elite. 14 sacks in the past two seasons isn’t an amazing stat line. The physical tools are what make him so tantalizing as a prospect. However, could the Lions trade down and still get him? Possibly. With the quarterback order up in the air teams could on draft night make a crazy trade in order to get their guy. The Lions could easily gain more draft capital and still get an elite defensive prospect.
The Detroit Lions have so many options in this year’s draft. They have not leaked much on what direction they want to go. This draft is shaping up to be an entertaining one and the Lions are one of the many reasons why.
