Detroit Lions defensive end Aidan Hutchinson becomes just the third Lion to record at least four sacks in a single game and the first to do so since Keith Fergusson in 1986 against the Philidelphia Eagles.
Aidan Hutchinson dominated Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield during their Week 2 game at Ford Field. Hutchinson recorded his first sack on the opening drive and forced a fumble, which the Buccaneers recovered. He then added a sack on each of Tampa Bay’s next two possessions, totaling three sacks for the game at the time.

Hutchinson wasn’t finished. He sacked Mayfield for the fourth time in the third quarter. He later had another play initially counted as his fifth sack, but it was revised to a half sack because he wasn’t the only Lion in on the play.
Aidan Hutchinson’s Performance Ranks Among the Best in Detroit Lions History

The only other Lions players to record at least four sacks in a single game are Ferguson, with four sacks, and William Gay, who set the franchise record with 5.5 sacks in 1983. Dating back to last season, Hutchinson has now accumulated 10 sacks over his last four regular-season games, setting a new record for the most sacks by a Lions defender in any four-game stretch.

Hutchinson finished the game against the Buccaneers with 4.5 sacks, but the Lions were unable to secure the victory, losing 20-16. The defeat came after Jared Goff and the Lions’ offense failed to complete a game-winning drive late in the fourth quarter.
After picking up a win in Week 1 over the Los Angeles Rams and now loosing to the Buccaneers the lions are now sitting at 1-1 on the season and head on the road to take on the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, Sept. 22.
