The Detroit Lions’ former 12th overall pick, Jameson Williams, has finally lived up to the draft pick thanks to a breakout year and is a great complement to Amon-Ra St. Brown after a shaky first two seasons. Williams broke out in 2024, boasting career highs in receptions, targets, yards, touchdowns, and games played. He caught 58 passes on 91 targets for 1,001 yards and seven touchdowns in 15 regular-season games.
The Detroit Lions must decide on his 5th-year option very shortly

The Lions have until May 1 to exercise or decline Jameson Williams’ fully guaranteed 5th-year option for the 2026 season. Since he didn’t meet the playing time requirements for tier 2 and was not selected for the Pro Bowl in his first three seasons, Williams’s 5th-year option is categorized under tier 1, the basic tier. The basic tier for wide receivers is expected to be worth $15.493 million.

Detroit Lions poised to make $15 million decision

During the annual NFL League Meetings in Palm Beach, Florida, General Manager Brad Holmes told the media that the Lions are leaning toward exercising Jameson Williams’ $15.493 million fully guaranteed 5th-year option for the 2026 season. Holmes praised Williams for breaking out in Year 3 and believes he is only scratching the surface. Here’s what the elite GM had to say about the subject matter:
“Look, it’s heading that way that we are most likely going to be doing that,” Holmes said Monday during the annual league meeting. “He was a tremendous player for us last year.
“He’s still scratching the surface. I do think he’s got more in him as well, so I just think it just makes sense for us to do what we can to keep him around.”
