ESPN’s college football analyst Desmond Howard has done it again. The former Michigan wide receiver appears to be on a mission to rid himself of all credibility. Either that or he has determined to be “sensational” in order to put himself on the media radar. If it’s the latter, he may need to examine his strategy, as stooping to outrageous comments only wears on the public.
His latest comments about C.J. Stroud were the most recent in a long line of ridiculous blunders or statements that he has made.
Desmond Howard in 2019
Going back to 2019, Howard made an unacceptable comment on ESPN’s College Gameday. “Is Desmond Howard gonna have to choke a b—h?” was not only inappropriate but also showed that he didn’t understand the most basic principles of broadcasts. While he did issue an apology, and it could be argued that the comment was overblown, it showed a lack of judgement on his part. Still, if this was just a one-off error it would have gone away and remained a footnote. But he continues to make these “gaffes”, and embarrass his alma mater.
Ukraine Blunder
While there are so many others to note, including a blunder in December during an interview with Bryce Young, Howard made one of his most eye rolling mistakes in March. Responding to a tweet by his ESPN co-host Chris Fowler supporting Ukraine, Howard chose to respond with “Go Blue”. Apparently Howard thinks the world revolves around Michigan.

C.J. Stroud Comments
In his latest comments regarding the Heisman, Howard went so far as to state that no one, not even C.J. Stroud, should be in the conversation other than Alabama quarterback Bryce Young.
“I don’t think that C.J. Stroud or anybody else should be even neck-and-neck right now with Bryce Young,” he said.
Young, who won the Heisman last year, is currently slotted behind Stroud as the No. 2 favorite. According to Howard, if you won the trophy the previous year you should automatically be the frontrunner.
Such simple minded analysis belies an inability to really think about the issues and relay them thoughtfully. As mentioned in GridironHeroics.com Stroud is the favorite for good reason. While there are certainly no guarantees, the early projections are based on several factors. And in Stroud’s case he has been on the rise since early in the 2021 season.
Bryce Young should be in the conversation. WITH C.J. Stroud, Caleb Williams, etc. To say Young is all alone is a painfully ignorant statement.
And what difference does it make? Being the frontrunner doesn’t help your chances versus being projected second or third. But maybe in Howard’s mind it does.
On the topic, Desmond Howard said “I don’t get it”.
Yeah, we can tell.
