Although he hasn’t performed that well on the field yet, Bo Nix still has what it takes to become a star in the NFL soon. This is what former New Orleans Saints star Drew Brees said as the Denver Broncos quarterback endures another loss in Week 2.
Following the Broncos’ narrow defeat to the Steelers, Head Coach Sean Payton expressed optimism regarding Nix’s performance. After reviewing the game footage, Payton noted significant improvements from Nix’s first start to his second, highlighting his ability to process information and manage his progressions effectively. Nix himself recognized that while he made strides, success in terms of wins remains elusive.
Payton emphasized the need for the entire offense to reduce self-inflicted errors, particularly penalties and inefficiencies on crucial downs. He acknowledged that the team needs to improve its overall performance metrics to enhance efficiency. Despite the loss, Nix’s statistics showed growth, with better passing totals and a higher passer rating compared to his debut.
In the second half, Nix made several impressive completions, including key plays that showcased his potential. He ended the game with 246 yards on 20 completions, although he faced challenges with two interceptions. Payton pointed out areas for development, particularly in building Nix’s confidence in the pocket to enhance his decision-making under pressure.
NFL Legend Drew Brees Claims Denver Broncos’ Drew Brees Is Set Up for Success
While Nix has his fair share of critics, there are those who believe in what he can achieve. One of those individuals is Brees, as written in an article by DJ Siddiqi for Responsible Gambler.
“I’ve been really impressed with him,” says Brees of Nix in an interview with RG.org on behalf of his partnership with Sports Illustrated Tickets. “A few things that stick out to me – first off, the guy had 60 starts in college, 60 high-level starts at Auburn and Oregon. That’s significant. That is significant in a young quarterback’s growth and development.”
Nix is one of three rookie quarterbacks starting this season, each facing their own challenges. As the Broncos prepare for upcoming games, the rookie quarterback has to give justice to Brees’ faith in him, especially when Week 3 rolls around soon.
By then, everyone will see whether Nix can show some potential or display more of the same weaknesses he has exhibited in the last two weeks. In any case, Broncos’ fans will just have to stay tuned to see if the rookie quarterback pans out or not.
