Bo Nix’s debut as a professional in the NFL didn’t go exactly as planned. In turn, Denver Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain came to the rookie quarterback’s defense in a now-deleted post on social media.
Nix faced significant challenges in his NFL debut for the Broncos, who fell to the Seattle Seahawks with a score of 26-20. Despite showing promise, he struggled against a formidable defense, completing 26 of 42 passes for just 132 yards, with no touchdowns and two interceptions. His late touchdown run provided a glimmer of hope, but it wasn’t enough to secure a win.
The upcoming schedule poses further challenges for the rookie, with games against strong defensive teams like the Pittsburgh Steelers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and New York Jets on the horizon. Head coach Sean Payton highlighted the need for improvement from both Nix and his teammates, pointing out issues like inadequate pass protection and dropped passes that hampered the offense.
Nix’s performance was hampered by a struggling offensive line and a lack of support from running backs, who averaged under three yards per carry. Payton emphasized the importance of the run game in easing his transition to the NFL, stating that a more effective ground attack is crucial for the rookie to find his rhythm.

Despite the setbacks, there were positive signs to the rookie’s NFL debut. Teammates noted Nix’s composure and leadership qualities, which will be essential as he adapts to the demands of professional football.
As Nix reviews game tape and prepares for the next matchup, the Broncos’ coaching staff and fans remain hopeful that he can build on his debut experience and improve in the coming weeks. The focus will be on establishing a balanced attack to support the young quarterback in his development.
