The Denver Broncos star Pro Bowl receiver, Courtland Sutton, was in the middle of a contract dispute with the front office last offseason. Sutton had two years left of his four-year, $60 million contract extension with only $2 million guaranteed and $26.5 million remaining, and he desired a $2 to $3 million raise. He expressed his displeasure by holding out of voluntarily organized team activities but attended mandatory minicamp to avoid a $100,00 fine.

Both parties were able to work on a compromise before training camp started, avoiding a potential holdout. The Broncos restructured Sutton’s contract by converting $11.875 million of his $13 million base salary into a signing bonus. As part of the restructured deal, they added up to $1.5 million in incentives, allowing him to earn up to $15.2 million in 2024.
The Denver Broncos WR made the most of the opportunity

Courtland Sutton made the most of the opportunity and had his best statistical season since 2019. Sutton hauled in a career-high 81 receptions and 135 targets for 1,081 yards and eight touchdowns during the regular season, along with five receptions on nine targets for 75 yards in the postseason. Because he reached 1,000 receiving yards, he earned $1.5 million in incentives.
Since he had a great 2024 campaign and has one year left on his deal, the Broncos and their top receiver will once again have extension talks this offseason. He is scheduled to earn a $13.5 million base salary, along with a $20.2 million cap hit in 2025.
He is optimistic about negotiations

During an interview with Parker Gabriel of The Denver Post, Courtland Sutton gave an update on his ongoing contract negotiations. Sutton shared that they have had good and productive conversations with the front office, and he believes they are trending in the right direction.
“My team has had a really good conversation with the guys up there in the front office, and I think it’s working in the right direction,” Sutton said via Gabriel. “Ultimately, you just want to know you’re working in the right direction. I think they see and have seen what I’ve brought to the team.
“I’m open and optimistic about the fact that I’ll be able to be here for the rest of my career.”
Their GM wants him to stay in Denver

“Courtland Sutton is one of our guys. He’s a team captain,” George Paton during the NFL Scouting Combine. “I’ve said this for a couple of years in a row, we want him here. We’ll have those discussions at the right time.”
