The Denver Broncos were able to make an impressive run to the playoffs during the 2024 NFL season. Behind the impressive play of rookie quarterback Bo Nix, the Broncos looked the part of a legitimate contender.
Heading into the NFL offseason, Denver will be looking to build more around its young quarterback. Nix could use some help, especially at the running back position.
Javonte Williams and Jaleel McLaughlin both played solid football throughout the year, but neither is a true workhorse or dynamic playmaker. If the Broncos want to make an offensive splash, pursuing a running back upgrade would make a lot of sense.
With that being said, a “perfect” target has been suggested for them with free agency opening next week.
Denver Broncos Connected to ‘Perfect’ 2025 Free Agency Target
Bradly Locker of Pro Football Focus recently took a look at the perfect free agency target for every team in the NFL. When it came to the Denver Broncos, he suggested a very intriguing option.
Aaron Jones was the player mentioned for the Broncos. Locker believes that Jones would fit Sean Payton’s offensive perfectly.
“Over the past two seasons, Sean Payton’s offense has relied heavily on outside zone and man concepts in the run game, turning to them on a combined 47% of ground-game snaps. It just so happens that, since 2023, Jones ranks 12th among qualifiers in PFF man rushing grade (73.8) and 16th in PFF outside-zone rushing grade (74.5). Plus, he secured a 70.6 PFF receiving grade last season, and Payton relishes pass-catching running backs.”
Landing Jones might be a difficult thing to do. The Minnesota Vikings are expected to try and re-sign him, while other teams around the NFL would also love to add his skill-set to their offense.
However, Jones would be a perfect fit for Denver and they should pursue him.
During the 2024 NFL season with the Vikings, Jones ended up carrying the football 255 times for 1,138 yards and five touchdowns. He averaged 4.5 yards per carry.
In addition to his rushing numbers, Jones showed off his dual-threat ability with 51 catches for 408 yards and two touchdowns as a receiver out of the backfield.
Expect to see Jones have a robust free agency market. Don’t be surprised if the Broncos show interest in him when the market opens up.
