Denver Broncos rookie quarterback Bo Nix isn’t just improving dramatically from week-to-week, he’s been the most consistently impressive signal caller chosen in this spring’s NFL Draft.
Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons, Nix was stellar, completing 28-of-33 passes for 307 yards with four touchdowns in a 38-6 victory, representing the high-water mark in a stretch that the No. 12 overall pick has posted a quarterback rating above 100 in three of the past four games.
Following Sunday’s victory, the Broncos improved to 6-5 and if the regular season ended today would be preparing for a playoff game against Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills on Wild Card Weekend.
Bo Nix Has Arrow Pointing Up for Denver Broncos
While the Broncos’ stalwart defense has been a catalyst for Denver’s success, it has also eased the pressure on Nix to be the driving force which seems to be accelerating his development in the midst of a potential dash to the postseason.
Legendary former Broncos wide receiver Rod Smith has been wildly impressed by Nix’s trajectory and steady improvement throughout his rookie season.
“Bo has the trust of his teammates,” Smith told me following the Broncos’ win on Sunday. “He’s not drifting in the pocket and moving forward when things are covered. He’s getting the ball to the first guy open and letting the big plays come to him.
“He has excellent energy and confidence. I’m so excited to watch him perform week in and week out. Sean Payton is doing a great job of putting him in plays that enhance his skills.”
Nix has the benefit of playing for head coach Sean Payton, and his reputation as a quarterback whisperer, but each game seems to be getting more comfortable within the Broncos’ offense and with the speed of the NFL game which shows just how bright the future has the chance to be in Denver.
