The Denver Broncos are going into the 2024 season looking to turn around the direction of their franchise. After trading for Russell Wilson during the 2022 off-season, the Broncos had nothing but Super Bowl aspirations. That, unfortunately, did not come to fruition.
That followed by a record of 8-9 last season, forced the front office to make some major changes. Those changes have created some unexpected hope for the 2024 season.
The Denver Broncos Announce Some Pretty Significant Quarterback News
According to multiple news outlets on social media:
Multiple people within the Broncos’ organization have been impressed by rookie quarterback Bo Nix, per Jeremy Fowler of ESPN
“People I’ve talked to with the team aren’t shying away from the notion that Denver feels like it has something in Nix. Sometimes with rookies you get lines like, “He’s coming along” or “Rookies need time.” Not in this case. The line is a variation of “He’s impressive.”
There is no doubt that the Denver Broncos quarterback competition is among the most intriguing, and wide-open, in the entire NFL right now.
Following Russell Wilson’s release, head coach Sean Paytn has been tasked with choosing the franchise’s next quarterback. There are three quarterback options available to the Broncos – first-rounder Bo Nix, Jarrett Stidham, and former Jet Zach Wilson.
ESPN’s Dan Graziano included the Broncos in his predictions for each quarterback battle in the NFL in 2024:
“Nix was the 12th overall pick in this year’s draft. A lot of people were surprised he went that early, but Broncos coach Sean Payton identified Nix early in the pre-draft process as the player he wanted for his system,” Graziano reported. “Stidham finished last season as the starter after the benching of Russell Wilson. And Zach Wilson is the 2021 No. 2 overall pick who never showed much with the Jets and got traded away for a sixth-round pick.
“You can place Zach Wilson as a clear No. 3 in this race right now, based on everything I’ve heard. He obviously has high-end talent and could theoretically show enough in camp to move up, but he never really did that in three years with the Jets and so far doesn’t seem to have impressed anyone very much in Denver.”
