Deion Sanders didn’t usher his players on a luxurious jet to travel to San Antonio for a loss in the Alamo Bowl. The second-year Colorado Buffaloes head coach wants his players to stay out of trouble in the days leading up to their matchup with the BYU Cougars on Saturday night at the Alamodome.
The Buffaloes are playing their first bowl game since the 2020 season. Colorado chose to take out expensive insurance on their elite talent, so players like Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter will play in the game instead of opting out to prepare for the 2025 draft.
Deion Sanders gives his players a warning
Per Jason Jones with Sports Illustrated, Sanders gave a stern warning to his players about how they behave in the team hotel. Players cannot wear loungewear. They also cannot smoke.
“You embarrass us and this university, you will not get a second chance to do it,” Sanders said. “If I smell smoke on any floor, or somebody tells me you’re smoking on that floor, that will be your last puff.”
The Colorado Buffaloes haven’t won a bowl game in a long time
The Buffaloes are the betting favorite to win Saturday’s game. Per ESPN BET, Colorado is a 4-point favorite to knock off No. 17 BYU.
Colorado is 12-17 in bowl games; their last win came in 2004 against UTEP in the Houston Bowl.
Maybe if Colorado wins, Deion will be relaxed about how his players celebrate a victory when they return to Boulder.
