Davante Adams spent each year of his eight professional seasons with Aaron Rodgers as a Green Bay Packer. Rodgers threw balls to Adams, and, more often than not, the connection was magical.
However, the magic ended this offseason. Green Bay had to make a decision: Let Rodgers walk or trade Adams. There was no way the team could keep both on the expensive contracts they both demanded. Additionally, both players needed new deals.
The Packers decided to keep its quarterback happy; in turn, Green Bay couldn’t keep Adams. The organization traded the receiver to the Las Vegas Raiders, the home of his college quarterback, Derek Carr.
Davante Adams continued to chatter
Although the Adams and Rodgers connection is dead, the receiver discussed his old quarterback recently.

Adams claimed there is an adjustment period when changing quarterbacks after being with Rodgers for so long. However, the quote rose some eyebrows.
The eyebrow-raising didn’t stem from re-learning Carr and his tendencies. Instead, it came from Adams comparing Rodgers’ hall of fame career to Carr’s up to this point.
Carr has been a fine quarterback, fringe top-10 at times. However, Rodgers has the accolades and Super Bowl ring to make his claim to the hall. Although, Carr has plenty of time in his career to close that gap.
The comparison by Adams seemingly ruffled Rodgers’ feathers. Today, the quarterback clapped back at his former receiver.
The wild comparison
On Wednesday, Rodgers mirrored Adams’ thoughts. He compared his former receiver to Allen Lazard.

Lazard has some catching up to do if he wants to be in the same realm as Adams. The four-year veteran turns 27 before the end of the season and has surpassed 500 receiving yards one time.
Lazard has not had a Pro Bowl selection or any professional accolade. Adams is a five-time Pro Bowler and a two-time All-Pro receiver.
Lazard isn’t bad by any means. As Rodgers said, “he (Lazard) hasn’t had a ton of opportunity,” but the comparison is ridiculous by looking at the careers of each receiver.
While it is unknown if Lazard will catch up to the numbers Adams established with Rodgers, one thing is for sure. The build to the Rodgers-Adams grudge match should be great.
Unfortunately, that game will not happen this season. The teams collide in the 2023 season in Las Vegas.
