The Miami Dolphins are on the verge of missing the playoffs this season. Miami’s head coach is Mike McDaniel and he is in his third season with the franchise. The Dolphins are 5-7 this season and they made the playoffs last season before losing to the Kansas City Chiefs.
One of the biggest stories with Miami this season has been quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. They have not had a reliable backup for him and one name to potentially watch for this offseason is Minnesota Vikings quarterback Daniel Jones.
Miami Dolphins Urged To Sign Daniel Jones This Offseason
On Monday, the Bleacher Report Scouting Department released an article about what each NFL team should do this offseason. For the Miami Dolphins, one of the things that was suggested for them to do is to sign Minnesota Vikings quarterback Daniel Jones this offseason.
Just a couple of weeks ago, Jones was released from the New York Giants. The Bleacher Report Scouting Department said:
“The Dolphins remain the premium spot for a backup quarterback going into the offseason. There’s no doubt that Tua Tagovailoa is the starter. He’s looked really good lately and has a strong command of Mike McDaniel’s offense, but the reality is that he’s only played one full season in his career thus far.
A quarterback like Daniel Jones could come in, progress behind the scenes and get to work with a strong offensive mind in McDaniel. If Jones gets pressed into action he gets to work with the likes of Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle and De’Von Achane. It’s a win-win for all involved.”
Having Daniel Jones as the Miami Dolphins’ backup quarterback next season would be ideal rather than having Tyler Huntley or Skylar Thompson as the backup quarterback to Tua Tagovailoa. Jones would be with an offensive head coach.
Chances Daniel Jones Stays With the Minnesota Vikings
There is a chance that next season Jones will not be with the Dolphins and that he will compete with J.J. McCarthy for the starting quarterback job. Minnesota could very well move off of Sam Darnold and Nick Mullens at the end of the NFL season.
The quarterback room could be very different with the Minnesota Vikings. J.J. McCarthy had a knee injury (torn meniscus) before the start of the 2024 NFL season. It will be interesting to see what happens this offseason in Minnesota.
