The Dallas Cowboys are one of the most disappointing teams in the NFL this season. After winning 12 games in each of their past three seasons, they are just 3-6 this year and are far closer to getting a top ten pick in the 2025 NFL Draft than they are to competing for a spot in the NFL Playoffs.
To make matters worse, Dallas’ starting quarterback, three-time Pro Bowler Dak Prescott, recently had season-ending surgery on his hamstring, which reportedly had been torn off of the bone.
As one might have expected, the offense looked even worse than it has all year without him.
The Dallas Cowboys Had No Passing Game Against the Philadelphia Eagles

The Cowboys played the Philadelphia Eagles in their first game without Prescott this season. Backup quarterback Cooper Rush started the game, but completed just 13 of his 23 passes for a measly 45 yards.
Third string quarterback Trey Lance was not much better, completing four of six passes for just 21 yards.
By the end of their 34-6 drubbing, Dallas had just 49 net passing yards.
Of course, the run game did very little to help as has been the case all season. Rico Dowdle led the Cowboys with 53 rushing yards on 12 carries. Ezekiel Elliott added 22 yards on just six carries.
Through 10 weeks, Dallas is averaging just 83.7 rushing yards per game, the second-lowest mark in the NFL.
The Dallas Cowboys Bring Back Quarterback Will Grier

Going into this season, Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy and owner/general manager Jerry Jones made the decision to keep three quarterbacks on their roster. With Prescott now out for the year, Dallas wanted to ensure they still would have a quarterback room with three players at the position.
On Tuesday, it was reported that the Cowboys had signed Will Grier, who had recently been released by the Eagles:

Grier, of course, spent some time with the Cowboys organization from 2022-2023. A former third-round pick by the Carolina Panthers, he has not appeared in an NFL game since 2019.
In 2023, knowing he was going to be cut following the acquisition of Lance, Grier put up four touchdowns in a preseason game against the Las Vegas Raiders:

After being cut by the Cowboys following the 2023 preseason, he was picked up by the Cincinnati Bengals and signed to their practice squad. A few weeks later, the New England Patriots signed him to their active roster, and he spent most of the 2023 season with them, floating between the active roster and practice squad.
However, in December of 2023, the Los Angeles Chargers signed him away from the Patriots.
Grier signed with the Eagles as a free agent this offseason.
