The Dallas Cowboys enter the offseason with very limited cap space, $2.47 million under the cap. Since they have very little cap space to work with, Dallas will restructure and renegotiate contracts and release players, allowing them to retain and sign free agents. However, similar to every NFL team, the Cowboys will not be able to keep every free agent, and they must pick and choose which player they would like to bring back.
Highlighting one of their big-name free agents is their star defensive tackle.
The Dallas Cowboys star defensive tackle is set to hit free agency

Osa Odighizuwa completed the final year of his 4-year, $5,086,190 rookie contract, which he signed during the 2021 offseason, and he is set to hit free agency. Odighizuwa is coming off a breakout fourth season, boasting career-highs in tackles, QB hits, sacks, and snaps. He recorded 47 tackles, five TFLs, 23 QB hits, 4.5 sacks, and one forced fumble in 17 starts, representing 860 (78%) defensive snaps.
Since he is a pivotal part of their defense, it would be logical for them to re-sign him to a contract extension for the right price.
The Cowboys aim to extend star defensive tackle

During an interview on Sunday with David Moore of The Dallas Morning News, Cowboys’ EVP, COO, and Director of Player Personnel, Stephen Jones, said he is interested in extending Osa Odighizuwa, and negotiations have begun. Jones believes Odighizuwa is a talented player and an important piece to their defense. Here’s what he had to say about the upcoming free agent:
“We have had negotiations with Osa,” Jones said, via David Moore of The Dallas Morning News. “I just think Osa is a really good football player… He’s an important piece.”
Here’s a look at PFF’s projected contract for Osa Odighizuwa

- Contract Length: 4 years
- Average Per Year: $21.25 million
- Total Contract Amount: $85 million
- Total Guaranteed: $50 million
