The Dallas Cowboys players, like people all over the world, have been closely following the 2024 Olympics in Paris, France for the past couple of weeks. With the Games at an end, athletes and fans are now looking ahead to 2028 when the Olympics will be held in Los Angeles, California. Earlier this month, New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers said that he hopes he can team up with Davante Adams again when flag football is introduced to the Games that year.
The Cowboys, too, have a star player that wants to compete in the 2028 Olympic Games: All-Pro linebacker Micah Parsons, though he is not limiting himself to possibly competing in flag football.
Dallas Cowboys Linebacker Micah Parsons Wants to Take a Break from Football in 2027
In a recent social media post on X (formerly Twitter), Parsons revealed that he desperately wants to compete in the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. “I need to find a way to get in the Olympics by 2028! What events y’all think I can do?? Need ideas,” he tweeted.

Soon after, he posted, “After 2027 ima take a break from football to prepare for the Olympics!”

One has to wonder how serious Parsons is about taking a break from football to focus on preparing for the Olympics. Most of the athletes who will compete in 2028 are already training as it takes years to prepare.
Former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III believes that Parsons definitely should compete in the Los Angeles Games, but flag football: “No need. Just be the rusher in Flag Football. Most important position on the team. You have speed and are agile. It’s perfect for you,” Griffin posted.
As fans can tell from this year, the Olympics coincides with the start of training camp. It will be interesting to see what NFL players participate, if they are allowed to participate, that is.
Will Micah Parsons Be with the Dallas Cowboys in 2028?
2028 is four years away, and the fact of the matter is that Parsons’ future with the Cowboys is far from certain right now. While he is in training camp and preparing for the 2024 NFL season with the rest of the team (minus CeeDee Lamb, of course), he is expecting to get a massive contract extension from the team.
According to Stephen Jones, the Cowboys’ COO, Parsons wants a deal that will make him the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL. Right now, that honor belongs to Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson, who will make $35 million on the contract that he signed with his team earlier this offseason.
Dallas, meanwhile, has to figure out a way to pay Parsons as well as Lamb and star quarterback Dak Prescott. While they remain hopeful that they will be able to keep all three, no deals have been signed and the regular season is quickly approaching.
