After signing Dak Prescott to a massive deal, the Dallas Cowboys have found themselves with a pair of losses to go along with their sole victory. As it stands, there’s a reason why the team’s offense isn’t living up to expectations lately.
The Cowboys are facing significant challenges on offense this season, prompting calls for major changes. Despite having a strong defense, the offensive unit has struggled to maintain consistency and effectiveness. Analysts highlight that the Cowboys need to reassess their play-calling and overall strategy to become more competitive.
One major area of concern is the lack of creativity in the offensive scheme. Defenses have been able to predict plays, limiting the team’s ability to exploit mismatches. This predictability has resulted in a stagnant offensive performance, leaving the team unable to capitalize on scoring opportunities.
Additionally, the performance of key players has been under scrutiny. The quarterback’s decision-making has come into question, with fans and analysts alike calling for more aggressive gameplay. The offensive line also needs improvement, as protection has faltered, leading to unnecessary pressure on the quarterback.
ESPN Reveals Dallas Cowboys Biggest Problem on Offense
As it stands, the Cowboys’ running back group isn’t up to the task of helping the team win. This is detailed by Todd Archer in his NFL analysis for ESPN.
Coach Mike McCarthy can harp on the lack of rushing attempts — just 49 by running backs in three games — but when Rico Dowdle, Ezekiel Elliott or Deuce Vaughn have carried the ball, it has not been good enough. Per NFL Next Gen Stats, the Cowboys have picked up minus-74 rushing yards over expectation through three games, which is third worst in the NFL behind Chicago and Miami. In addition to the lack of attempts, the Cowboys’ rushing game hasn’t established any rhythm. Put another way: Quarterback Lamar Jackson had 1 fewer yard Sunday than Dowdle has to lead the Cowboys this season (88).
To address these issues, the Cowboys may need to consider adjustments in personnel or even coaching strategies. Bringing in fresh ideas and perspectives could help revitalize the offense and create a more dynamic attack. As the season progresses, it’s essential for the Cowboys to find a balance between their defensive prowess and offensive capabilities.
With upcoming games critical for their playoff aspirations, the Cowboys must prioritize these changes. If they can enhance their offensive output, they will not only improve their chances of winning but also bolster team morale. The urgency to adapt and evolve has never been clearer, as fans expect a turnaround in performance that matches the team’s potential.
