NFL Insider Names 7 ‘Obvious’ Fits for Dak Prescott in Potential 2025 Free Agency

Star quarterback Dak Prescott‘s time playing for the Dallas Cowboys may soon come to an end if the front office couldn’t lock him down with a new contract. If this happens, seven teams may make a move on him in 2025 when he becomes a free agent.

When the Dallas Cowboys entered the 2016 NFL Draft, their goal was to find a young quarterback to develop behind the aging Tony Romo. After failing to trade up for other highly-touted prospects, they ended up selecting Prescott in the fourth round.

Intended to serve as a backup in his rookie season, Prescott was thrust into the starting role after Romo’s preseason injury. He seized the opportunity, leading the Cowboys to the NFC’s top seed and setting numerous rookie quarterback records on his way to winning Offensive Rookie of the Year.

Since then, Prescott has continued to excel, guiding the Cowboys to three additional division titles and making three Pro Bowl appearances. His impressive on-field performance has been matched by his off-field leadership, as evidenced by his 2022 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year award.

As it stands, Prescott’s current contract with the Cowboys will expire soon. If an extension won’t be reached by both parties, there may be several teams interested in acquiring the star quarterback, according to a pair of tweets by Nick Korte and Bill Barnwell on X.

“Thinking through which teams could go after Dak Prescott if he were to make it to free agency in 2025, and the four that stand out to me are the Steelers, Raiders, Seahawks, and (this would be spicy) Giants. If their rookie QBs go really wrong…Colts, Titans & Panthers…maybe…” Korte tweeted.

“Writing about Dak this week. Giants, Seahawks, Jets, Steelers, Titans, Saints, and Raiders seem like the obvious ones if their QB situations disappoint this year. Dolphins would be in the mix if the Tua deal doesn’t get done. Panthers would be a longshot if Young doesn’t improve,” Barnwell reacted to Korte’s tweet.

In the eight seasons Prescott has played in the NFL, the Cowboys’ quarterback has amassed 202 touchdowns, 29,459 yards gained by passing, and has a 50 percent passing success rate, among others. He also led the league in completed passes last season by making a total of 410.

In the event Prescott walks away from Dallas, the teams mentioned may pounce on him right away. In any case, a lot of eyes will be on the quarterback to see if he’ll perform well for the Cowboys in the coming season.
