The Dallas Cowboys face a great deal of uncertainty as they prepare for the 2024 NFL season. Head coach Mike McCarthy was not given a contract extension, meaning that he could be gone after the year if he fails to lead the Cowboys on an extended postseason run (he has a 1-3 record in the NFL Playoffs since being hired by Dallas).
In addition to the uncertainty surrounding McCarthy’s future with the team, Dallas also needs to figure out contract extensions with their three biggest stars: quarterback Dak Prescott, wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, and linebacker Micah Parsons.
While Prescott and Parsons have reported for training camp despite their deals not being done, Lamb has been holding out for quite some time. The latest reports surrounding his situation, unfortunately, do not bode well for the Cowboys and their fans.
It Could Take Weeks for the Dallas Cowboys and CeeDee Lamb to Come to an Agreement
Fans that have been hoping that Dallas and Lamb would come to an agreement soon are going to be sorely disappointed. On today’s episode of Scoop City, NFL insider Dianna Russini reported that it could take weeks before a deal is struck between the two parties:
“CeeDee Lamb is going to demand the money he thinks he’s worth,” she said. “So he’s holding out. From having conversations, I don’t see this getting ironed out over the next few days. I think this is something we’re going to see leading into next week, maybe even the week after.
“This isn’t one of those situations where I’m getting vibes, signs, positive attitude from both sides. It just seems like it’s a challenge for the Dallas Cowboys to get there.”
The length of time that it will take to get deals done for all three of their stars is because they all want to be among the highest-paid players at their positions.
Dallas Cowboys Wide Receiver CeeDee Lamb Wants to Be the Highest-Paid Non-Quarterback in the NFL
According to Cowboys COO Stephen Jones, Lamb (and Parsons) both want to be the highest-paid non-quarterbacks in the NFL:
#Cowboys COO Stephen Jones says Micah Parsons and CeeDee Lamb both want to become the highest paid non-quarterback in football, which would be over $35M per season.
Jones says they have all that going on while also juggling the Dak Prescott situation, which is ongoing.

This means, of course, that both Lamb and Parsons want to be paid $35 million or more per year. Paying both of those stars that much, plus the $60 million annual salary Prescott is rumored to command, just is not feasible.
Cowboys fans should be ready to wait for a resolution because one is not coming soon.
