The Dallas Cowboys are in the midst of training camp, preparing for their first preseason game the 2024 NFL regular season. Of course, much of the news surrounding the team, though, is focused less on their preparations and more on their ongoing contract negotiations with their three biggest stars.
Quarterback Dak Prescott is in camp but is entering the final year of his contract. As he and the Cowboys have not come to an agreement on an extension, there is speculation that this could be his final year in Dallas. Whoever signs the three-time Pro Bowl quarterback, whether it be the Cowboys or another team in 2025, will likely be giving out the richest contract in NFL history.
Linebacker Micah Parsons, too, is present in camp even though he is locked into contract negotiations with Dallas as well. He is seeking a deal that would make him one of the highest-paid defensive players in the NFL.
While both Prescott and Parsons are both present and participating in training camp, their other biggest star, wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, is not.
Dallas Cowboys Star CeeDee Lamb Wants to Be the Among the NFL’s Highest-Paid Wide Receivers
Earlier this offseason, the Minnesota Vikings made Justin Jefferson the highest-paid wide receiver in NFL history. Lamb’s fellow 2020 first-round pick signed a four-year $140 million contract extension, good for an average annual salary of $35 million.
A couple of weeks ago, Cowboys COO Stephen Jones revealed that both Lamb and Parsons want to be the highest-paid no quarterbacks in the NFL. The $35 million annual salary that Jefferson has with the Vikings is now that mark.
Obviously, it will be very difficult for Dallas to pay all three of Prescott, Lamb, and Parsons. That being said, Lamb has a good case for being paid as well as Jefferson. Below are their stats since entering the NFL:
CeeDee Lamb | Justin Jefferson | |
Receptions | 395 | 392 |
Receiving Yards | 5,145 | 5,899 |
Touchdowns | 32 | 30 |
As one can see, the two are very close in receptions and touchdowns, though Jefferson does have over 700 more receiving yards than Lamb, and that was with him missing seven games last season.
Still, Lamb believes that he deserves to make money that will rival that of Jefferson. And his teammates support him.
Dallas Cowboys Wide Receiver Brandin Cooks Shares Encouragement for CeeDee Lamb
According to the Dallas Morning News, Lamb is in constant contact with his fellow Cowboys wide receiver, Brandin Cooks. Dallas’ number two wide receiver told reporters:
“We talk all the time. I think it’s important to let him know that his teammates are thinking about him. But at the same time, just talking to him, checking in on how he’s doing, not necessarily talking about football because I know there’s a lot going on there.”
Cooks is not the only Cowboys player that has voiced their support of Lamb in recent days. Ezekiel Elliott and Prescott have both told reporters that the locker room supports Lamb as he navigates his contract negotiations.
Hopefully the two sides will come to an agreement soon so Lamb can get back on the field.
