The Dallas Cowboys are entering a new era in the franchise with a new head coach in long-time assistant Brian Schottenheimer. The hope, of course, is that he will help revitalize the offense, which had become stagnant even before Pro Bowl quarterback Dak Prescott, fresh off of signing a $60 million per year contract extension, went down with a season-ending hamstring injury.
Of course, this new era of Cowboys football comes with many roster decisions. While Dallas has, once again, chosen to focus on signing their own players to contract decisions, they have signed a few outside free agents. The biggest question, though, is whether or not they will be able to come to terms on a contract extension with four-time Pro Bowl pass rusher Micah Parsons.
Micah Parsons Gives Dallas Cowboys Fans Hope That He Will Not Hold Out with Recent College Football Comment

One of the biggest stories in football right now is that of Tennessee quarterback Nico Iamaleava, who is leaving the Volunteers over an NIL dispute. After signing a deal worth $2 million a year, Iamaleava decided he wanted $4 million, but Tennessee would not give it to him.
Indeed, this sounds like a contract dispute not uncommon among professional NFL players, and Parsons thinks it is an example of how, in his opinion, NIL is ruining college football:
College football a joke now! Yall minds well just make college into a semi pro league! Actually hold players accountable to the contracts they sign! https://t.co/9gmrCOlZgi
— Micah Parsons (@MicahhParsons11) April 11, 2025
As one can see, Parsons does not object to college football players getting paid. However, he does take issue with the fact that the athletes themselves have no measures in place that would force them to honor their side of the deal.
This is good news for Cowboys fans who are concerned over whether or not Parsons will holdout of training camp and maybe part of the season if he does not get a new contract with Dallas.
Currently, Parsons is scheduled to play the 2025 NFL season on his fifth-year option, which is worth $24 million. And while that is no small sum of money, it is far below what his value is as one of the best pass rushers in the NFL. Earlier this offseason, the Cleveland Browns gave Myles Garrett, who plays the same position as Parsons, a new contract worth $40 million per season.
As the four-time Pro Bowler has expressed that he believes players should honor their sides of contracts, Dallas’ fans should feel good about him showing up for offseason activities and training camp, even if his agents and the Cowboys do not reach an agreement before the then.
Looking a year into the future, too, should he not get a deal from Dallas that he likes, the Cowboys could franchise tag him and, based on these comments, expect that he will continue to show up as negotiations continue.
