The Dallas Cowboys need to add some firepower alongside Dak Prescott, and the NFL Draft could represent the best chance to land a weapon.
Many view Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty as a potential generational prospect at running back, but given that the Cowboys don’t go on the clock until the No. 12 overall pick, Dallas might need to trade up to select him or settle for a backup plan.
Could the Dallas Cowboys Take Omarion Hampton?

ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. suggests the Cowboys could still emerge from the first round of the draft with one of the top running backs, even if Jeanty goes off the board at No. 6 to the Raiders, or otherwise.
In his latest mock draft projection, Kiper has the Cowboys selecting North Carolina running back Omarion Hampton.
“I see the Cowboys trying to improve the run game,” Kiper writes for ESPN. “Which managed 4.0 yards per carry and a league-low six TDs last season. They have thus far replaced Rico Dowdle with Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders. Neither new back has the home run ability of Hampton, who can scoot through holes and take off despite his 221-pound build. I’ve never been an advocate of the first-round running back, but team owner Jerry Jones isn’t afraid to address the position on Day 1.”
The duo of Williams and Sanders feel more like pieces of the puzzle rather than the foundation of a backfield, which Hampton would have the potential to develop into.
Hampton, 6 foot and 220 pounds rushed for 1,660 yards and 15 touchdowns, while averaging 5.9 yards per carry this past season in Chapel Hill.
As the Cowboys look to add a weapon for Prescott, Hampton could be a name to watch.
