The Dallas Cowboys, owner Jerry Jones and head coach Mike McCarthy are coming off a rare win against the Washington Commanders in a 2024 season that has failed to meet expectations.
The Cowboys pulled off the divisional victory with backup quarterback Cooper Rush as the signal caller. Rush is replacing star QB Dak Prescott, who was sidelined for the remainder of the season with an injury.
While the win may have provided hope for some pockets of the Cowboys’ massive fanbase, many still want to see monumental change before the 2025 season.
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is considering extending HC Mike McCarthy and fans are furious

While McCarthy is coming off three straight 12-win seasons and three straight playoff appearances, many fans are expecting a change at the head coaching position before 2025.
McCarthy has only missed the playoffs once as the head coach of the Cowboys, yet he has only managed to amass one playoff victory. McCarthy’s Cowboys are now sitting at 4-7 with just two NFC teams posting inferior records, which does not bode well for a fourth-straight playoff appearance.
Despite a season that nobody saw going this poorly, Jones took to the media to express a potential desire to extend McCarthy. Jones pointed to his past as a Super Bowl-winning head coach.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones on @1053thefan said he’s not ruling out a contract extension for head coach Mike McCarthy.
“I don’t think that’s crazy at all. This is a Super Bowl-winning coach. Mike McCarthy has been there and done that. He has great ideas. We got a lot of football…

Fans were already unhappy with Jones for the way he handled free agency ahead of the 2024 season. Now, their patience with the Cowboys organization is wearing even thinner.
If we resign him that’ll be the final nail in the coffin for me and this team

Lol Mike McCarthy hasn’t coached a single good game for the Cowboys. Embarassing organization.

Why not? Nothing gets better until the Jones family is gone.

Jerry Jones needs to be removed from the GM position asap. This team is about to be the next Panthers. #sportcoin

Yet another example why it’s time for Jerry to step down or sell the team and let someone else call the shots

Fans aren’t the only ones who have publicly shared the sentiment of wanting McCarthy gone. Star linebacker Micah Parsons, one of the team’s foundational pieces, said himself that he would welcome a McCarthy departure in an article from NFL.com
“Mike can leave and go wherever he wants,” Parsons said, via Jori Epstein of Yahoo Sports. “Guys I kind of feel bad for [are] guys like Zack Martin and guys who might be on their last year or on their way out. Because that’s who I wanted to hold the trophy for. You want to win games and do great things with those type of legends who put in more time and work than Mike McCarthy ever did.
“Those are the kind of guys that I have so much sympathy and hurt for.”
Parsons has since walked back on those comments, but the fact that they were even uttered in the first place is indicative of where the Cowboys are as an organization.
