The Dallas Cowboys are entering the 2025 NFL season with big goals of getting back to being a top-tier contender in the NFC. After missing the playoffs last season and dealing with major injury issues, Jerry Jones made a lot of offseason changes.
Most notably, the team moved on from former head coach Mike McCarthy. They replaced him with first-year NFL head coach Brian Schottenheimer.
From a roster perspective, Jones went out and pulled off a huge trade after the 2025 NFL Draft to acquire wide receiver George Pickens from the Pittsburgh Steelers. On the outside looking in, the Cowboys should be much improved from last season, especially if they’re able to stay healthy.
On Sunday, Dallas made another big roster move.
REPORT: Dallas Cowboys Make Big $52 Million Move on Sunday
According to a report from NFL insider Ian Rapoport of NFL.com, the Cowboys have agreed to terms on a four-year, $52 million contract extension with tight end Jake Ferguson.
Rapoport also noted that Ferguson will receive a $12 million signing bonus.

Ferguson has become a big part of the Dallas offense. He had started looking like a piece that the team could keep around for years to come.
During the 2024 NFL season with the Cowboys, Ferguson played in 14 games. He caught 59 passes for 494 yards, but did not score a touchdown. Back in 2023, he racked up 71 receptions for 761 yards and five touchdowns.
At just 26 years old, Ferguson will be a piece that Dallas can build around moving forward. He has room to continue growing his game. Locking up to a long-term deal now makes perfect sense for Jones and company.
It will be interesting to see what kind of production Ferguson can give the Cowboys during the upcoming 2025 NFL season. With a new contract under his belt, expectations will rise for the talented tight end.
