The Dallas Cowboys have high expectations coming into the 2025 NFL season. After an offseason that saw the team move on from former head coach Mike McCarthy and make quite a few additions to the roster, Jerry Jones is expecting the team to contend for a Super Bowl.
Should the Cowboys come up short of expectations once again, bigger changes might be made.
Last season, Dallas had issues with injuries and never performed up to the level that was expected. Dak Prescott missed most of the season, playing in just eight games. Defensively, the Cowboys never looked like an elite unit and struggled at times in the secondary.
Looking ahead to the upcoming 2025 season, could Dallas look to make another move to improve the secondary? Jones and company have been linked to one specific free agent.
Dallas Cowboys Linked to Big Free Agency Move Before 2025 NFL Season
Ethan Woodie of NFL Trade Rumors has named Dallas a possible late-offseason suitor for veteran free agent cornerback Rasul Douglas.
“Some cornerback depth would go a long way for the Cowboys, especially while Diggs and Revel aren’t 100 percent,” Woodie wrote. “Douglas might not be an every-week starter anymore, but he’s a capable fill-in, someone who could start a handful of games at the beginning of the season if need be. He’d be a definitive upgrade over Elam, too, as depth for the rest of the season.”

Douglas played the 2024 NFL season with the Buffalo Bills. He had a solid year, racking up 58 total tackles to go along with a forced fumble and five defended passes.
Back in 2023, however, he put together a big-time season. He played for both the Bills and Green Bay Packers, totaling 61 tackles, a sack, three fumble recoveries, five interceptions, a defensive touchdown, and 14 defended passes.
Adding a piece like Douglas would improve the Cowboys’ defense. He may be an aging cornerback, but he’s still capable of playing an impact role for any team that gives him a chance.
Jones may not have interest in signing Douglas, but it’s an interesting thought worth keeping an eye on as the season draws closer.
