The Dallas Cowboys made a lot of their fans happy with a bold move in the offseason, which was the trade for Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver George Pickens.
With Pickens now in Arlington, the Cowboys arguably have the best 1-2 wide receiver combo in the NFL today, as he is set to line up across the field with CeeDee Lamb.
It remains to be seen how exactly Pickens will fare downfield for the Cowboys, but expectations are high on him, especially since he’s now with a team that has a stable situation under center, unlike what he was used to in Pittsburgh.
Meanwhile, Cowboys chief operating officer Stephen Jones added to the hype around Pickens when he compared the former Georgia Bulldogs star to one of the best ever to play the position in Dallas history.
“Well first of all we look at him, it’s just two starting receivers out there, we don’t necessarily even think — we think of him as more than a two, when we were looking at the deal,” Jones said during an appearance on SiriusXM’s Mad Dog Sports Radio (h/t Nick Shook of NFL.com). “Certainly we looked at the draft in terms of scratching an itch, seeing what might be available there in the draft, but here you get a guy who’s got experience, who’s had great success in the NFL, obviously a tremendous competitor. He reminds a lot in our building of Dez Bryant, in terms of his competitiveness and what he brings to the field, his edge.”
Bryant played for eight seasons with the Cowboys, earning three Pro Bowl nods along the way. During his stint in Dallas, Bryant had 7,459 receiving yards and 75 touchdowns through 113 games.
Pickens only has three seasons in the NFL under his belt, but he’s become one of the best young wide receivers in the league. He has 2,841 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns so far in the pros, For what it’s worth, Bryant had 2,871 receiving yards and 27 touchdowns in his first three seasons in the NFL.
Dallas Cowboys COO sparks reactions after Pickens-Bryan comparison

Jones’ take was shared by the NFL on its official Instagram account, and as expected, it generated strong reactions from fans online.
“i honestly havent seen anyone like dez since dez”
“I’m not a cowboy fan but Pickens shouldn’t be put in the same category as Dez”
“Nah Dez is one of one”
“Dez Bryant??? Pickens had like 2 good games last year”
“Pickens better fr”
“How quick we forget dez was a bigger diva”
