Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys added to the wide receiving corps by acquiring Jonathan Mingo in exchange for a fourth round pick in a trade deadline deal with the Carolina Panthers.

While the Mingo trade has drawn criticism and skepticism from those inside the NFL and out, given the state of the Cowboys’ season, the former second-round pick is just happy to have a change of scenery and a fresh start.
“This is a fresh start for me,” Mingo told reporters Thursday. “I’m glad they took a chance on me so I can show them what I can do. Somebody finally believed in me, so I can show them what I can do. I’m just happy to be here.”
Mingo will likely push for Jalen Tolbert’s role opposite CeeDee Lamb in the Cowboys’ offense, and hopes to turn a corner from his disappointing first two seasons in Carolina where he’s caught 55 passes for 539 yards in 24 starts.
Still, despite limited production, Mingo was shocked to hear about the move going down.
“It kind of blindsided me, because my agent told me he didn’t think anything was going to happen, slim chance,” Mingo said, via the Cowboys’ official website. “So that slim chance happened. I’m happy to be a Cowboy, fresh start for me, new beginnings, God put me here for a reason.”
