The Dallas Cowboys are crumbling before America’s eyes and just about everyone not named Jerry Jones saw it coming before the 2024 season.
In an offseason where he publicly stated where Jones said he was “all-in” for this season — yet added almost no new talent to the Cowboys roster despite the team losing starters on both sides of the ball and key role players from the 2023 squad — it was easy to predict the inevitable.
For the entirety of the offseason, the narratives surrounding the team were focused on the future of the team’s two biggest stars, WR CeeDee Lamb and QB Dak Prescott.
In typical Jerry Jones fashion, he sat on his hands while the rest of the league gave their star receivers and QBs record-breaking contracts. Finally, with just 5 days left in August, the Cowboys agreed to a four-year, $136 million extension with Lamb. He received $100 million guaranteed and a wide receiver-record $38 million signing bonus, while becoming the second-highest paid non QB in the league behind Justin Jefferson.
And once the 2024 season kicked off and the Cowboys won their opener against the Cleveland Browns, it was announced Dallas inked a four-year, $240 million contract extension with Prescott, with $231 million guaranteed.
But now Prescott is injured for the rest of the season and after Monday night’s 34-10 home blowout loss to the Houston Texans, the Cowboys are sitting at (3-7) and going backwards, after posting three-consecutive 10-win seasons heading into this season.
Dallas Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones’ Health In Question After Puzzling Decisions And Statements
Despite the obvious struggles on the field for the Cowboys, Jones has had several erratic moments with the media and there’s growing concern for his health.
Earlier this season, Jones threatened to fire radio hosts who questioned the Dallas Cowboys‘ lack of offseason moves. After that, the Cowboys owner went on a bizarre tirade about the sun glare inside of AT&T Stadium.
Now on Tuesday morning, Jerry Jones was on a local Dallas radio station rambling about how good the Cowboys have been over the last 15-20 years despite never reaching a NFC Championship game during that time frame.
“(Over the last 25 years), we’ve been the sixth-winningest team in the NFL. In the last 15 years, we’re the fifth-winningest team in the NFL. We haven’t been to the championship playoff game. We haven’t been to a Super Bowl, but we’ve been (hanging) around that rim. And we’ve been up there with the best of them,” he said.
“… Rest assured we’ll be figuring out ways to look for what we’re doing wrong and improve on that. … The bottom line is that we’ve got to get better. We will get better. There are better days ahead.”
ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith was on air Tuesday morning and publicly stated he was seriously concerned with the health of the Dallas Cowboys owner.
“I’m not joking when I say this, I’m getting very, very worried about Jerry Jones, because the only thing that’s worse than the team’s play is his press conferences, or whatever you want to call it, when he’s in front of the reporters, where he says one thing after another after another,” Smith stated on Tuesday, via First Take. “I find myself thinking about, you know, Joe Biden, before he backed out of running for reelection, and he’s only — listen he’s only one month, I think Jerry is one month older than President Joe Biden, for crying out loud. I remember when I was on the airwaves, literally, guys nine, ten, months ago, and like, ‘Yo, he can’t — he can’t be the nominee. He ain’t going to make it to the Democratic National Convention. Y’all got to change. Y’all got to do something to change.”
It’s clear there could be something wrong for the Dallas Cowboys owner but hopefully that isn’t the case.
