Dallas Cowboys: Jake Ferguson Shares Negative 2024 Review

Dallas Cowboys tight end Jake Ferguson is coming off a disappointing 2024 NFL campaign that was made even more frustrating when viewed from the context of how he did in his first two seasons in the pros. Selected in the fourth round (129th overall) of the 2022 NFL draft by the Cowboys, Ferguson had 935 receiving yards and seven touchdowns in his first two years in the league.

But just when many expected him to take another big leap in 2024, he ended up with just 494 receiving yards and zero touchdowns on 59 receptions and 86 targets. Dealing with health troubles and Dak Prescott suffering a hamstring injury that cut his season short contributed to Ferguson’s subpar 2024, but all that is behind Ferguson now.

The former Wisconsin Badgers star knew how tough of a year 2024 was for him (and for the Cowboys), but that’s only adding fuel to his desire to get better, as he works on his game before Week 1 of the new season.

“I definitely wasn’t satisfied with how I played all last year,” Ferguson said, per Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

He also added: “My knee hurt, for sure. The concussion was weird. But I’ve said this before, if I’m on the field, I should be able to give it my all. I don’t think I’ve ever played a full season and not scored a touchdown. That was something that I came into this offseason really working on. Just trying to really dial in on those things.”

With Prescott expected to be back in time for the start of the 2025 season, Ferguson will look to make a much bigger impact downfield for Dallas’ attack than he did last year, when the Cowboys were also just 21st in the league with an average of 20.6 points per game. Ferguson is also entering a contract year, so that’s undeniably another reason for him to push himself into having his best season yet in the NFL.
