The Dallas Cowboys are coming off a hugely disappointing 2024 NFL season in which they won just seven games, finished third in the NFC East division and missed the playoffs for the first time in three years.
There’s plenty of work to do for Dallas in the offseason, as the team looks to have a big rebound in 2025. The upcoming 2025 NFL draft could offer the Cowboys answers to some of their roster issues, including in the wide receiver room.
Matthew Golden to the Dallas Cowboys?

In a recent appearance on The Mina Kimes Show featuring Lenny, Dane Brugler of The Athletic was asked about his thoughts on the Cowboys’ No. 12 pick in the first round of this year’s draft. Presented with options between Texas Longhorns star wideout Matthew Golden and Michigan Wolverines stud tight end Colston Loveland, Brugler opted to go with the former for the Cowboys.
“I think that’s interesting because you can make the case Loveland is the best pass catcher, pure pass catcher available at this point,” Brugler said. “I do think that they want to go offense here. They want to add some type of weapon…I’m going to go chalk and I’m going to go with Golden. I think it’s more traditional for what they want to do on offense. I don’t know that they’re going to think that much outside the box with how they’re going to use a guy like Loveland when they’ve already have tight ends on the roster,” Bruglerr added.
With all that said, Brugler believes that the Cowboys will be a solid place for Golden to begin his NFL career.
“I think that Golden, good chance to be one of the first two receivers drafted. I think at number 12 to Dallas is certainly a potential landing spot for him.”
The Athletic’s Draft Expert, @dpbrugler, was on The Mina Kimes Show ft Lenny and went with Matthew Golden in a pick ‘em scenario for the #Cowboys, with Tet McMillan off the board.

In any case, the Cowboys will have a closer look at Golden this week, as he is scheduled to visit Dallas on Thursday. In the 2024 college football season, Golden recorded 987 receiving yards and nine touchdowns on 58 receptions through 16 games.
