Dallas Cowboys: Worrisome Report Surfaces Regarding The 2024 Season

The Dallas Cowboys are going into the 2024 season with the same expectations they’ve had ever since Mike McCarthy took over as head coach: to win the Super Bowl.

Unfortunately, the Cowboys have suffered an early exit in the playoffs each year under McCarthy after a strong regular season.

While there is a lot to be excited about for this upcoming season, there is one report surfacing that could once again spell doom for Dallas.

According to Kenneth Teape of NFL Analysis:

There may not be a team under more pressure to perform in 2024 than the Dallas Cowboys. There could be some major changes on the horizon if they don’t get over the hump and end their NFC Championship Game drought.

Attention this offseason has been on quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb. Both are seeking contract extensions, but there hasn’t been much traction on a deal with either player.

Defensively, the team needs to overcome the loss of defensive coordinator Dan Quinn. He took the head coaching job with the Washington Commanders, the first coach under new owner Josh Harris.

Despite those distractions and obstacles, there is a lot of optimism surrounding the Dallas Cowboys. Based on odds shared by bookmakers, they are a strong playoff contender in the NFC with odds of -260 to make the postseason.

Their odds of winning the NFC East for a second straight year are at +150. The Philadelphia Eagles look to be their only competition for that crown.

Despite that, NFL writer James Dator believes that the Dallas Cowboys are one of the more overrated teams entering training camp this year.

“Dallas were hamstrung in free agency by the salary cap, which caused them to make no appreciable upgrades to their roster — while poor cap management meant the team also lost Dorance Armstrong, Tyler Biadasz, Tony Pollard, and Tyron Smith (among others).

There is no planet in which the Cowboys are a better team today than they were a year ago, yet money has them on-par with the Eagles in the division.

No team is poised for a bigger drop than Dallas in 2024. This is the franchise on the verge of needing a full retooling to adjust for the league moving forward.

Teape makes a good point. Dallas did very little to GET BETTER this off-season.  Their 2024 roster is very resemblant of the 2023 one.  “Running it back” rarely works in professional sports, even for Super Bowl champions.

It will be interesting to see how Dallas does this season.
