The Dallas Cowboys‘ defense has been decimated by injuries throughout the 2024 campaign, and will now be without another key contributor for the remainder of the season.
According to ESPN’s Todd Archer, Cowboys safety and special teams ace Markquese bell is out for the season after suffering a dislocated shoulder in the first half of Monday night’s 34-10 blowout loss to the Houston Texans.
Bell is one of the Cowboys’ most respected locker room leaders, and a key contributor on special teams.
“Yeah, that one hurts,” Cowboys special teams coordinator John Fassel told reporters Tuesday, when discussing Bell’s injury. “I mean, he’s put as good a special teams’ ball through 10 games as I can remember. Man. He got hurt doing what he does best, just flying in there. He’s going to be OK but, man, just, gosh, spending time with these guys in meetings and the practice field and the game field, the emotions of undrafted to wanting a little bit more and accepting his role and thriving in his role, damn. I’m hurting for him because he was on a mission.”
Bell’s season is now over, after posting six total tackles in nine games.
The Cowboys have already lost quarterback Dak Prescott for the remainder of the season due to a hamstring injury, while DeMarcus Lawrence, DaRon Bland, and Micah Parsons have all missed significant time throughout the course of this season.
