Help could be on the way for the beleaguered Dallas Cowboys defense that has been besieged by injuries in recent weeks.
With All-Pro edge rushers Micah Parsons and DeMarcus Lawrence sidelined due to injury, Dallas could be about to get a critical playmaker in the secondary back on the field.
As Week 6 looms, the Cowboys are opening the practice window for DaRon Bland as he aims to return from Injured Reserve, according to ESPN’s Todd Archer.
Bland is looking to return from a fractured foot just prior to the regular season kicking off, and boost a secondary that has taken its share of lumps in recent weeks.
Last season, Bland proved just how valuable he is to the Cowboys’ defense when he intercepted five passes as an emerging star in the secondary.
It’s unlikely Bland will be able to prove he’s healthy enough to return in time for Sunday’s Cowboys game against the Detroit Lions, but, having a bye week in Week 7 creates extra time for him to get healthy, get practice reps, and show that he’s ready to take the field.
Bland now has 21 days to be activated onto the active roster, ready for game action, or be reverted to season-ending Injured Reserve.
