The Dallas Cowboys haven’t gotten off to the start they would’ve liked, but they are still sitting 2-2 just one game back from the leader in their division.
After saying the Cowboys would go “all-in” during this offseason free agency period, owner Jerry Jones might have a chance to make a big-name splash in the middle of the season.
The Dallas Cowboys inquired about trading for Las Vegas Raiders WR Davante Adams
According to NFL insider Diani Russini, the Cowboys are one of two teams that inquired about trading for star Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams.
The Jets and Cowboys are among the many teams monitoring the Davante Adams situation. Both have checked in with the Raiders. I’m told at this point that Vegas is in no rush to make a move until a team reaches their asking price — but Adams wants out ASAP.

Russini reports that the Raiders won’t move Adams unless the teams inquiring about a trade reach their asking price, but Adams wants out of Las Vegas “ASAP.”
Through three games played, Adams has amassed 209 receiving yards and a touchdown on 18 receptions. Quarterbacks Gardner Minshew and Aidan O’Connell have been the signal callers for the Raiders in 2024 with Minshew starting all four games.
Adams was in a similar QB situation with the Raiders in 2023, except QB Jimmy Garoppolo was behind center for the first portion of the season instead of Minshew. Adams still managed to have over 1,100 yards receiving, which was his lowest production since 2019 when he only played in 12 games.
The Dallas Cowboys already have a star wide receiver
One of the reasons the Cowboys are 2-2 and not 3-1 or 4-0 is because of a lack of depth from their pass catchers. Star WR CeeDee Lamb is one of the most prolific receivers in the league, but the Cowboys don’t have many options outside of him.
Lamb leads the team with 316 yards receiving in 2024. Only two other players, WR Jalen Tolbert and tight end Jake Ferguson, have more than 100 yards receiving. The next best receiver on the team is 31-year-old Brandin Cooks, who hasn’t had over 700 yards receiving since 2021.
While 2-2 doesn’t initially seem like a spot where the Cowboys need to make moves to survive, a blowout loss to the New Orleans Saints in week two shocked the Dallas faithful. Prescott addressed the disappointment after the loss in an article from The Landry Hat.
“…As far as riding a high, I know I wasn’t personally,” said Prescott. “I don’t think the guys in the locker room necessarily were. I talked about how much we left on the bone offensively. And that’s simply why you can’t listen to other people’s opinions and read what you guys write, respectfully. You [the media] may have put this team on a high more than we should have been… We’re not going undefeated. It hasn’t been done in 50 years, Woo surprise…”
The addition of Adams would make the Cowboys’ passing attack one of the most-feared passing attacks in the NFL. Defensive issues aside, a Cowboys team with two of the best WRs to play in the NFL in the last decade would give them a chance to make a run in the playoffs.
