The Dallas Cowboys have been in the headlines for too many reasons this past offseason. A lot of fans are not happy with the way this offseason has gone. There have been too many distractions, especially with contract extension talks with Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, and Micah Parsons.
CeeDee Lamb is expected to hold out at the start of training camp for the Dallas Cowboys. With him holding out, it will be interesting to see who else will step up for Dallas in the meantime. Dak Prescott is expected to show up for training camp on time.
This will be a big year for Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy. He will be on the hot seat for this year. There has been a lot of friction between him and owner Jerry Jones. McCarthy helped Dallas win the NFC East last season with a 12-5 record, but they lost to the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Wild Card Round.
CBS Sports Writer Jared Dubin Thinks That the Dallas Cowboys’ Biggest Roster Holes Are the Running Back Position And the Defensive Tackle Position
CBS Sports writer Jared Dubin wrote about the biggest roster holes for each NFL team entering the 2024 NFL season. For the Dallas Cowboys, he thinks the biggest issues are the running back position and the defensive tackle position. Dubin said:
“Dallas’ running back depth chart consists of Rico Dowdle, Ezekiel Elliott and Deuce Vaughn. (Royce Freeman is there, too, seemingly as a camp body.) The defensive tackle rotation is Osa Odighizuwa, Mazi Smith and … Carl Davis? These are not “all in” position groups.”
The Dallas Cowboys might have the weakest running back room in the NFL. Ezekiel Elliott is not the running back he once was. Tony Pollard was not re-signed and he signed with the Tennessee Titans in NFL free agency. They should have addressed the position in the NFL Draft but they did not.
Dalvin Cook and Kareem Hunt are still on the free agent market for the Dallas Cowboys to sign. They both would be starters on Dallas over what they have now. Elliott is projected to be the starting running back for the Cowboys. He played with the New England Patriots last season.
The Dallas Cowboys play a 4-3 defensive scheme. Mike Zimmer will be the defensive coordinator this season after Dan Quinn left to be the head coach of the Washington Commanders. The issue for Dallas isn’t the defensive ends because Micah Parsons and Demarcus Lawrence will be the starters and that will be a strength.
As for the defensive tackles, Chauncey Golston, and Osa Odighizuwa are projected to be the starters. The interior of the defensive line could be a problem for the Dallas Cowboys all season long. This is a football team that will have high expectations this season that may not live up to them.
