The Crimson Tide boost their quarterback depth after adding their second 2023 Top 300 recruit at the signal-calling position. Four-star QB Dylan Lonergan announced he is taking his talents to Nick Saban’s program. No. 59 prospect Eli Holstein announced his commitment to Alabama in May, bringing competition for the Class of 2023 recruits.
Lonergan becomes the final ESPN 300 quarterback to verbally commit. The Georgia native chose the Crimson Tide over Stanford and South Carolina. Charles Kelly and Bill O’Brien earn the credit for bringing in the QB prospect.
A multi-sport athlete, Lonergan will have the opportunity to play baseball for Alabama, a huge factor in his decision. He touches 93 mph on the mound and is expected to be chosen in the 2023 MLB Draft. If Lonergan chooses college, he will be a dual-sport collegiate athlete.
“I just felt like I have the best chance to develop there in football and in baseball. Then obviously going to compete and going to play on the biggest stage, be able to play for a national championship every year.”
-Dylan Lonergan
What Does the New Crimson Tide QB Have to Offer?
Lonergan attends Brookwood High School in Snellville, GA, and presents a dual-threat ability. He completed 63% of his passes, throwing for 3,392 yards and 32 touchdowns. On the ground, he rushed for 645 yards and seven TDs. The 6-foot-2, 215-pound QB led Brookwood to a 10-3 record and a Georgia 7A state quarterfinal appearance.
The four-star athlete sits at No. 62 on ESPN’s Class of 2023 Top 300 and is the fourth-best player in the state of Georgia. The No. 6 ranked pocket passer possesses an 85 scout grade.

In Conclusion
Nick Saban respects the competitive fire and confidence Lonergan brings to the table. With Holstein already on board for Bama, Lonergan could have gone to another school to be the top guy. However, the Brookwood senior did not back down from the opportunity to develop as a QB and gain the chance to play two sports in the SEC.
There is no competition for the starting QB job in Bama with reigning Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young taking snaps. The other two quarterbacks on scholarship are freshman Ty Simpson and redshirt freshman Jalen Milroe. With Holstein and Lonergan’s commitments, Alabama has multiple ESPN Top 300 QBs in the same class since 2019.
Alabama missed opportunities on several big names, such as QB Arch Manning and DT Peter Woods, but they bring in their seventh four-star prospect. The Crimson Tide total 11 commits and ranks No. 12 on 247Sport’s national recruiting list.
