Cowboys Reveal First Depth Chart of 2025 Season: $3M Ex-broncos Leads RB Room Over Miles Sanders, Jaydon Blue

On August 30, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the Dallas Cowboys’ first official depth chart of the 2025 season. At running back, former Denver Broncos starter Javonte Williams leads the group, followed by veteran Miles Sanders and rookie Jaydon Blue.

Williams signed a one-year, $3M deal with Dallas on March 10. The deal includes a $1M signing bonus and $1M guaranteed. Two years removed from a major injury, the 25-year-old is now in line for a new opportunity after a somewhat shaky 2024 season. With Denver, he posted 513 rushing yards and four touchdowns on 3.7 yards per carry, also adding a career-high 52 receptions for 346 yards.

Per The Athletic’s Jon Machota, Williams “continues to see the most reps with the starters” during camp. Injuries have shaped the depth chart as well. Sanders is currently sidelined with a knee issue. Blue, though, suffered an ankle injury last week after seeing first-team reps.

Javonte Williams may not be a top fantasy option – however, his dual-threat skill set makes him a possible late-round pickup. Sanders, a former 1,000-yard rusher, played only 11 games last season and finished with a career-low 205 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Blue, meanwhile, is entering his rookie season and remains an unpredictable option.

The Cowboys’ depth chart confirms the team has flexibility in the backfield, but as of now, it’s Williams’ job to lose heading into Week 1.

Javonte Williams’ Struggles Could Open Door for Kenneth Walker Trade

The Dallas Cowboys could (perhaps) address their backfield concerns by exploring a trade for Seattle Seahawks’ RB Kenneth Walker in exchange for a fifth-round pick. A 2022 second-round selection, Walker brings more burst and acceleration than Javonte Williams.

While Walker is still a key piece of Seattle’s offense, injuries limited him to 11 games last season. The Seahawks also have Zach Charbonnet, who logged 134 carries and 52 targets in 2024, potentially giving them flexibility at the position.

A deal would mirror recent market value. The 49ers acquired Brian Robinson from Washington for a sixth-rounder, despite Robinson producing 799 rushing yards and eight touchdowns in 2024. Walker, 24, carries a $2.685M cap hit and is in the final year of his rookie deal, making him a realistic target if Seattle were willing to listen.
