The Cowboys have been all over the news and debates for the first two weeks of the NFL season. With multiple problems exposed on the offensive end, the defense has carried their incredible performance into 2022. Defensive coordinator Dan Quinn has guided Dallas to be a threat to match up against. He is the team’s savior… for now.
After a poor offensive performance in Week 1, the team lost starting quarterback Dak Prescott for a thumb injury that required surgery. Originally set to miss six to eight weeks, the team believes Prescott can return in four weeks. The next game, backup QB Cooper Rush led Mike McCarthy’s crew to their first win. As a matter of fact, the Cowboys scored their first touchdown of the season with Rush taking snaps.
Quinn’s group of defenders are locking it down to start the year, allowing 19 points to Tampa Bay and 17 points to Cincinnati. Both opponents are considered serious contenders, with the Bengals reaching the Super Bowl last year.
Dallas’ season is in jeopardy with Prescott out and the Eagles off to their hot start. Dan Quinn’s defense can be a sigh of relief to their season’s hopes… for now.
Why Do I Keep Saying “For Now”
Well, the Dallas Cowboys are beyond lucky they were able to retain Quinn to run their defense. The organization should be GRATEFUL. Considered to be a possible head coaching replacement franchises such as Minnesota and Miami, nobody hired him. The former Falcons head coach remained with the Cowboys for another year as the defensive coordinator.
If the Cowboys defense continues to dominate, it is safe to bet that Dan Quinn will be a head coach elsewhere. He should be the top option to take control of an organization that wants to start fresh.
Quinn’s departure would be a brutal loss for America’s Team. He turned one of the worst defenses in NFL history to a defense that would lead the league in turnovers. Losing him could damage the bond his group formed over the last two seasons.

Is There Any Chance He Stays In Dallas?
Of course, it is not guaranteed he will be a head coach elsewhere. However, it is highly likely. There is one way Dan Quinn can remain a Dallas Cowboy. He can replace McCarthy as the head coach.
McCarthy’s future as the head coach could be at risk, depending on the team’s success. Jerry Jones believes in his head coach, so I do not see him cutting the Mike McCarthy era cord. However, I do believe Quinn is the better option as a head coach.
The defense is in great shape. I would never imagine that the secondary for the Dallas Cowboys would be the strength of the squad after seeing how weak the defensive backs depth has been the last 10 years. Micah Parsons is the real deal. Last year’s Defensive Rookie of the Year is pass rushing more often this season and cannot be contained.
It seems like Quinn is more personable with the team than McCarthy has been. The former Packers head coach has all the respect from me. He has a Super Bowl ring and led Green Bay to numerous successful seasons.
It is way too soon to determine McCarthy’s time in Dallas. In three seasons, he is 19-16, with one playoff appearance and losing that game. The media is quick to put McCarthy on the hot seat, but it could be time to move on if Dallas has a disappointing season when Prescott returns.
If McCarthy gets fired, Dan Quinn should be the man to take over the team. For now, he will be relied on to be the savior for the Dallas Cowboys.
