The Dallas Cowboys have split their first two games of the season, beating Cleveland on the road and losing to New Orleans at home. While they are still 1-1 and the season is early, many fans want change after their embarrassing loss to the Saints at home.
The Saints completely outplayed Dallas on their way to a 44-19 victory in AT&T Stadium. That loss could spell a big change on offense going into week three.
Cowboys: Massive Change On Offense Expected For Week 3 Vs. Ravens
Three roster changes that Dallas needs to make was highlighted by Brian Martin. One of those was a big change to the running back room:
Promote RB Dalvin Cook from the PS to the active roster
The Dallas Cowboys rushing attack, or lack thereof, through the first two weeks of the 2024 season leaves much to be desired. Ezekiel Elliott has a total of 16 carries for 56 yards and a touchdown, Rico Dowdle has 55 total yards on 15 carries, and Deuce Vaughn has 15 yards on three carries.
Not one of the three has really looked like starting material so far, and it’s really handicapping Dallas’ offensive productivity, making them one-dimensional.
With Ezekiel Elliott, Rico Dowdle, and Deuce Vaughn not really moving the needle much in the rushing attack so far this season, it might be time for the Cowboys to turn to Dalvin Cook.
The 5’10”, 210-pound eight-year vet RB may be coming off a down year in 2023 after playing for both the Jets and Ravens, but he did rush for over 1,000 yards the season prior in 2022. It may be time to find out exactly how much, if anything, he has left in the tank.
Through the first two weeks of the season, the Cowboys have averaged less than four yards per carry.
While the Cowboys have relied heavily on Ezekiel Elliott and Rico Dowdle at running back, they signed Dalvin Cook to their practice squad in August in an attempt to find spark. In an interview with 105.3 The Fan, Jerry Jones threw cold water on the idea of bringing up Cook:
Jones said he is “pleased” with how the backs have performed and that he doesn’t expect the team will call Cook’s number.
“I don’t see a change that could involve Cook this week,” Jones said, via Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Cook’s limited work with the Jets and Ravens in 2023 didn’t do much to suggest he’s the answer to all problems, but there’s not much reason to have him in the organization if you’re not going to see if he can be an answer to some of them.
If Dallas continues to listen to Jerry Jones, they might not realize the talent they have in Dalvin Cook. Here is a snapchat of Cook’s career stats:

Cook has spent a large portion of his career as one of the best running backs in the league.
