The Dallas Cowboys are 2-2-1 through their first five games of the season with a matchup against the 2-3 Carolina Panthers on deck. The Brian Schottenheimer era didn’t start off with low expectations, fans expect to compete for a championship right away.
That may be why owner Jerry Jones made a huge trade announcement.
A shocking trade announcement by Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones goes viral

Jerry Jones said on the team website that he is open for business right now and that his team is in a position to make those moves because of the way they have played so far:
“I think that old sign is out, ‘Open for Business,’ is there. I think that we are continually looking. As we go on into this season, teams will position themselves where they basically feel like less of a contender because of the losses or because of circumstance on their team.” Jones said.
“That’s when you’ll see sometimes some better players that are available because the team has decided to start redoing some things on their salary cap structure, for instance. There’s opportunity there, and that’s when you start getting those calls. And yes, we’re in a position to improve our team if we get an opportunity to.”
The Dallas Cowboys currently sit at 2-2-1, so being guaranteed buyers at the deadline might not be true yet. However, the Cowboys have shown some impressive signs for parts of the year, and with a contest against the Carolina Panthers coming up on Sunday, as well as a few other easier games in the next five weeks, there’s a possibility for them to be over .500 and in a position to contend.
When discussing what he planned to do with the assets he received from the Parsons deal a few weeks ago, Jones confirmed that he’s ready to buy if the right opportunity arises.

“Well, of course, to use that capital, you’ve got to have the opportunity to use it. And frankly, no matter what I had seen in these first three ball games, if I had the opportunity to really do some good with those picks, I would do it. And we’ve got them, and that’s one of the advantages for, if you will, making the trade,” Jones said, per The Athletic’s Jon Machota.
There are a few scenarios that Jones must consider when he attempts to make a deal using some of the picks that he landed for the Dallas Cowboys in the Parsons trade. For one, the chances of getting a player of Parsons’ status are probably below zero, unless they can make a blockbuster deal with another team.
He also can’t use those picks just to move them, as the Cowboys could use those picks in the future to draft cheaper, younger players.
