The Dallas Cowboys are seeing their new head coach Brian Schottenheimer face some pretty harsh criticism before the season even kicks off. According to numerous sources online, some key figures had an issue with how the 51-year-old dressed during an interview.
“This Is Not How You Dress” Cowboys HC Brian Schottenheimer Facing Massive Backlash After “Inappropriate Wardrobe” Choice

It is time for Brian Schottenheimer to do better, says Colin Cowherd:
The days of head coaches rocking full suits on the sidelines are long gone. Over the years, many have adopted a more relaxed look.
Schottenheimer was criticized for his attire at Monday’s press conference. One of sports media’s top personalities called out the first-year NFL head coach.
FS1 host Colin Cowherd has never been afraid to voice his opinion, whether it’s warranted or not. On Monday, Cowherd called attention to Schottenheimer’s appearance during a recent Cowboys press conference.
Brian Schottenheimer wore a backward visor, which Cowherd slammed him for during Monday’s edition of The Herd.
“You know I don’t like backwards hats. What’s worse is a backward visor. That’s a two-win team,” Colin Cowherd said on Monday’s edition of “The Herd.”
“I’m taking away four wins. When you sit in front of a podium, you’re representing the Cowboys; you’re representing Bank of America; you’re representing a $12 billion corporation. I think you’ve got to do better as a head coach than a visor backwards.

“There’s a reason that at country clubs and private clubs, you have to wear collared shirts and jackets. There’s a reason for that. There’s a standard. I don’t want to look like a guy that’s here to move my couch. I want you to do better than that. That’s awful. That is so bad.”
This issue with Cowherd is not something that came out of nowhere. He previously expressed the same comments with Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick and San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy.

Brian Schottenheimer is entering his first season as the Cowboys’ head coach after spending the previous two seasons as their offensive coordinator.
He was hired in January 2025 to replace Mike McCarthy. This is his first head coaching position in the NFL.
For Brian Schottenheimer, it’s been a long time coming as he leads a training camp as a head coach for the first time in his career.
He won’t be given the same type of leeway as a first-year head coach of a different team. The Cowboys are a different franchise that expects great things to happen.
