The Philadelphia Eagles defense dominated the Kansas City Chiefs offense in the Super Bowl last season. Philadelphia won its second Super Bowl (LIV) title in franchise history.

Before the 2024 season began, there were many questions about the Eagles defense. Vic Fangio was the defensive coordinator last season, and the defense looked a lot better. In 2025, it will look to be a very good defense once again. One name that Philadelphia could try and sign in free agency before the regular season begins is safety Justin Simmons.
NFL Analyst Thinks That Justin Simmons Going to the Philadelphia Eagles Potentially Would Be a Good Fit

Kevin Patra, a senior news writer for NFL.com listed current free agents in his latest column about which team would be a good fit for them. For Simmons, he thinks that Philadelphia would be a good fit for him. The familiarity of Simmons and Fangio could be a reason why the Eagles could potentially make this relationship work. Patra said,
” It feels like the Eagles have been speculatively linked to Simmons from the moment Vic Fangio took on the defensive coordinator role in Philly last offseason. It doesn’t seem like Philly has been in a rush to fill the safety void created by the decision to trade Chauncey Gardner-Johnson to Houston. The Eagles have repped Cooper DeJean at safety early in camp — potentially as a way to ensure the playmaker stays on the field in non-nickel situations. However, the Super Bowl champs could use a veteran presence on the back end. The 31-year-old Simmons might not be the same high-flier he was in his Denver days under Fangio, but he can still cover ground and fits well in his former coach’s scheme. At this stage of his career, coming off his release by the Broncos last offseason and a one-year stint with the Falcons, Simmons will presumably be chasing a ring more than cash, which would fit Philly’s cause.”
Simmons is 31 years old, and he can still play the safety position at a very high level. During the 2024 NFL season with the Atlanta Falcons, Simmons recorded 62 tackles, two interceptions, and seven pass deflections. If the Eagles brought him to this defense, it would be a defense that would become very hard to score on.
Philadelphia’s back end was a major question mark heading into the 2024 NFL season as well. Simmons would be a nice addition to the Eagles or any other NFL team for that matter.
