There are not many stories with the Cleveland Browns quarterback battle for now and that’s because there is some time off before training camp begins. OTAs and mandatory minicamp are long gone, and many people have been figuring out the day-to-day battle at the quarterback position.

Shedeur Sanders will be the most polarizing figure on the Browns training camp roster when camp begins. It is not a slam dunk that he will be a Week 1 starter, let alone make the roster altogether. Cleveland has a four-way quarterback battle going on to be the Week 1 starter against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Cleveland Browns Shedeur Sanders Is Not In Line To Be the Week 1 Starter According To One Insider

Each NFL team has a lingering question right before training camp begins in 2025. Zac Jackson covers the Browns for The Athletic and the one question he asked was,
“What are the plans — yes, multiple — for the quarterbacks?”
Jackson hinted at a major update for Sanders and said,
“The four-man quarterback competition gets the headlines — and will get the scrutiny once it really gets going in late July. Could fifth-round rookie Shedeur Sanders win the job by September? Probably not given that Sanders is the only one of the four to take no first-team reps in the spring, but we’ll see. Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett are only signed through 2025, and we saw the Browns create extra competitive reps for both Sanders and third-rounder Dylan Gabriel in nearly every spring practice. When does the order really start to matter? Could the Browns really keep all four? Will there be a pre-deadline for the team to focus only on the future? Truly, there are numerous ways this can go.”
With Sanders not taking a first-team rep yet, it would be a good bet that he would not be the Week 1 starter for the Browns. A lot of people believe that Pickett could be the Week 1 starter over Flacco. There is a world where Cleveland could decide to only keep two quarterbacks on the roster instead of keeping all four on the roster.
It is going to be interesting to see how it all plays out. If Sanders does not get any first team reps in training camp, there is a chance that Cleveland could decide to cut him before the 2025 season begins. It may feel as if he may not be in the long-term plans for head coach Kevin Stefanski and general manager Andrew Berry.
Gabriel is the quarterback that the Browns appear to be more sold on for the 2025 season compared to Sanders. Flacco and Pickett appear to be in line to be the Week 1 starter for the Browns. That would not be a surprise. Cleveland most likely has no plans to cut Gabriel. As for Sanders, the off the field issues may cause him to not make the 53-man roster entering the 2025 NFL season.
