Week three seemed to be a continuation of the first two weeks, strong defense and dynamic offense lead the Wolverines to their third straight victory.
Wolverines Defense
The Wolverines Defense has allowed 10 points over their first three games this season
The Wolverines put on another defensive spectacle trampling the UCONN Huskies 59-0, holding the Huskies to 110 total yards, and recovered a fumble by Huskies running back Victor Rosa on their way to the blowout win. Although the defense did not put up many stats of their own, they held UCONN quarterback Zion Turner to 4 of 16 for 17 yards passing. This marks the third straight week that the Wolverines have held their opponent to 10 points or less, and this defense that lost multiple key players to the draft last season looks like it has not lost a step.
Wolverines Offense
Wolverines running back Blake Corum who scored five touchdowns against the Huskies
J.J. McCarthy looked great again going 15 for 18 for 214 yards, however, the biggest offensive performance today came from running back Blake Corum. Corum rushed 12 times for 71 yards and five rushing touchdowns. Corum was the star of the show today as only one passing touchdown was thrown, and one other come from another rusher. Corum’s five rushing touchdowns put him tied for fifth most rushing touchdowns in a game in Wolverines history. After three consecutive weeks of scoring 50 plus points, the Wolverine offense is rolling.
What to Look forward to Next Week
In week three the Wolverines will play their first in-conference opponent the Maryland Terrapins. So far this season, the Terrapins have started the season two and zero, after wins over Buffalo and Charlotte, and they face their first real test against the Wolverines next week. If the Wolverine’s offense and defense continue to play like they have through three weeks, we can expect to see another big win against the Terrapins.
