Things have become interesting in Dallas. After week 1, the Cowboys lost the game and their starting quarterback in one fell swoop. Additionally, the Cowboys lost their starting LG McGovern and hybrid-safety Kearse to injuries as well. Slowly, things began to seem overwhelming and a season in shambles already, in steps Cooper Rush.

Only starting one other game, where Rush led the Cowboys in a victory over Minnesota on Halloween Night last year, Rush’s star sparkled. Was it possible that Rush could help lead the Cowboys over defending AFC champs – the Cincinnati Bengals?

    Previously, on Rush Hour

On Halloween night, last year, marked Rush’s first start. After, the Cowboys red-hot QB Prescott ruled out of a matchup with visiting Minnesota team it was next man up. While Rush was slow to start, he finished with an incredible stat line: 24 completed passes for 325 yards, two touchdowns on one interception. This includes Rush’s game winning touchdown to, then-Cowboy, Amari Cooper.

I’ll admit that I was hesitant putting my faith in Cooper Rush, however, on the Cowboys first drive he helped lead them to a quick score. The Cowboys scoring a touchdown on their opening possession is a rather sight, so this began to restore my faith.

To aid Rush in his second start, OC Kellen Moore began dialing up his RB duo in this game. The duo saw 22 carries and 9 targets in the passing game. CeeDee Lamb made an appearance in this game securing seven of his 11 targets for 75 yards. As well, Noah Brown caught five balls for 91 yards and his first NFL touchdown (yes; first).

While there were some great offensive plays, this still only amounted to 17 points. Fortunately, the Dallas defense, led by Micah Parsons, continued their terror on Burrow. The Cowboys defense sacked Burrow six times; Micah Parsons and Dorace Armstrong registered two sacks each.

With Dallas’ scoring coming from the first half, alone, the Bengals slowly crept back into this game as they ate into the Cowboys lead. After a couple McPhearson field goals, Burrow led the Bengals on a 19-play drive and found Tee Higgins for a touchdown then connecting with Tyler Boyd on the 2-point attempt to tie the game.

After a short drive, the Cowboys had failed in moving the ball which led to a punt back to the Bengals. With the Cowboys needing a huge play, the defense stepped up once again, this time Trevon Diggs came up with a crucial stop on third down.

After a decent returner from Turpin, Rush was poised for another game winning drive. He connected with Brown and Lamb in a three-play succession of 8, 12 and 10 yard gains putting them well into Maher’s field goal range. Maher was able to line up his kick and drill a 50 yard field goal for the victory.

    Rush Hour, Pt. 3?

It’s amazing to say that the Cowboys pulled off this sensational upset, it’s not going to get easier. They will get an extra day of rest as they are set to play Monday Night Football at the Meadowlands against the Giants. We’re going to need to see the Cowboys offense not rely to heavily to win each of their games. They must see more scoring opportunities to avoid any further “hold-your-breath” moments.
