On Sunday, the Commander’s rookie running back, Brian Robinson, was shot during an attempted robbery. The incident occurred at roughly 5:30 p.m. on H Street NE, Washington D.C.
Immediately after exiting an unknown location, Robinson was approached by two armed teenagers. Robinson was able to wrestle a gun away from the first teen, however, was shot twice by the second. The 23-year-old suffered wounds to the knee and hip and was rushed to Medstar Washington Hospital Center.
It was later said that the suspects were after the keys to Robinson’s Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat.
Robinson underwent surgery on Monday morning and shared on social media that he is in stable condition. In an Instagram story posted at 11:26 a.m., Robinson wrote, “Surgery went well! Thanks for the prayers! God is Great!.”
There is no immediate timetable on Robinson’s recovery or official statement on when we might see him on the field next. However, Commander’s head coach, Ron Rivera, posted on Twitter, ensuring fans that Robinson “is in good spirits.”
I just got done visiting w/Brian. He is in good spirits and wanted me to thank everyone for their kind words, prayers & support. He wants his teammates to know he appreciates them all for reaching out and he loves them all & will be back soon doing what he does best.
