The Colorado football team is 4-1 heading into this weekend’s clash with the 16th-ranked Kansas State Wildcats, a similar record they held at this point last season, their first under head coach Deion Sanders. In 2023, Sanders and company posted a 4-2 record through the first week of October before embarking on a six-game losing streak. The Colorado Buffaloes are just one win away from surpassing last year’s win total, and two more victories would mark the program’s best record since 2016.
However, Sanders believes the Buffaloes have not overachieved this season, albeit owning a 9-27 record from 2021 to 2023. Coach Prime spoke to his Colorado football team before Monday’s practice, emphasizing his expectations for the program as they enter the heart of Big 12 competition.
Colorado Football HC Deion Sanders on 4-1 Start
According to Colorado football videographer Gucce on Twitter:
A powerful message from Coach Prime on his 4-1 start and beating UCF in Orlando: “We supposed to be here; quit acting like this is a surprise.”
Y’all think y’all arrived, right? You haven’t done nothing, man. We are supposed to be here. They act like it is a miracle you went to Orlando (UCF) and whooped them. ‘Great gameplan, great gameplan, great play calling, great play call, great everything, great execution, great coaching all week.’ We are supposed to do this. Quit acting like it is a surprise. It shouldn’t be a surprise to y’all because it sure ain’t no surprise to me. Y’all have much more in you. It starts today. I expect an air of seriousness when we practice today.
Albeit opening the season against an FCS school, Colorado football took down a well-disciplined North Dakota State Bison team 31-26 in their season opener. However, Colorado lost their next game, a road tilt against the Nebraska Cornhuskers 28-10. Since the loss, the Buffaloes have rattled off three straight wins, highlighted by a miraculous victory against the Baylor Bears that required a Hail Mary and a road win against the UCF Knights.
Head coach Deion Sanders preached to his team on Monday that they should not be surprised by the early season success. Additionally, Sanders expects the team’s recent run of conquest to leak into this weekend’s home contest against a ranked Kansas State Wildcats squad. A win on Saturday would undoubtedly position Colorado football into the AP Poll Top 25.
