Colorado football has become a weekly staple for national broadcasts. A year after hiring former NFL superstar turned college head coach, Deion Sanders, Colorado has played in numerous games on FOX and ESPN while holding a 6-2 record more than midway through the season. The Colorado Buffaloes have more wins this year than the previous two seasons combined and could win double-digit games for the first time since 2016. However, not everyone has jumped on the Buffaloes bandwagon this season.
In particular, earlier this month, a secular group called The Freedom From Religion Foundation, which lobbies for atheists, agnostics, and nontheists, wrote a letter to the University of Colorado to stop the program from holding pregame or postgame prayer. Coach Sanders, aka Coach Prime, has since reiterated that he has no intention of complying with the group. He also had the backing of the First Liberty Institute, a Christian conservative legal organization. On Wednesday, his son, Deion Sanders Jr., took a shot at the FFRF via Twitter.
Deion Sanders Jr. Clowns Atheist Group Attacking Colorado Football
According to Deion Sander Jr. on Twitter:
They mad as hell
Colorado head coach Deion Sanders says he has no intention of complying with activists who demand he ‘cease infusing the football program with Christianity.’
In a four-page letter to the school, The Freedom From Religion Foundation condemned Colorado football head coach Deion Sanders for continuously allowing a pastor to pray with and over the team, including after an overtime win against the Baylor Bears earlier in the season. The FFRF believes Sanders infringes on the rights of his student-athletes at a public university and is operating outside the perimeter of an FBS coach. The FFRF has had Sanders in their crosshairs since 2023, with the frontman having a long history of publically discussing his faith.
However, the elder Sanders has no intention of bending to the desires of The Freedom From Religion Foundation, much to the delight of one of his sons, Deion Sanders Jr. The younger Sanders, who works with the team via social media, claimed the FFRF is “mad as hell” following his father’s announcement to continue with pre and postgame prayer. Deion Sanders Jr. played wide receiver at SMU for three seasons, tallying 30 receptions for 233 yards while primarily operating as a kick returner.
