Whether for better or worse, Colorado football head coach Deion Sanders will never shy away from speaking his mind. Sanders has always been an animated interviewee, dating back to his 14-year playing career in the NFL. The Hall of Fame cornerback turned coach continues to grab headlines as he enters his second season with the Buffaloes, with some media outlets taking issue with his strong self-confidence and belief in his team.
On Friday, Sanders delivered another landmark interview, highlighted by his apparent disgust with CBS and The Denver Post. As he has in the past, Sanders aimed at certain media members in the audience following their employer’s apparent mishandling of representing him and Colorado football in the media.
Colorado Football HC Deion Sanders: Presses Media on Friday
Coach Prime, aka Deion Sanders, will never hide his true feelings regardless of the environment. On Friday, Sanders pressed two separate media members during an interview, most notably taking shots at CBS National. When CBS News Colorado representative Eric Christensen asked a question, Sanders stopped him in his tracks, calling out the national brand of his employer.
“I’m not doing nothing with CBS. Next question. It ain’t got nothing to do with you. It’s above that. It ain’t got nothing to do with you. I got love you. I appreciate you. I respect you. They know what they did…CBS is CBS… What they did was foul.”
Sanders appears to be in a major quarrel with the national brand of CBS, displeased with the international brand for something he deems “foul.” Last month, CBS Sports ranked Deion Sanders as the second-worst coach in the Big 12. CBS ranks Sanders as the 61st best coach in the nation overall, claiming the program’s foundation “has cracks” and last year was a disappointment, especially ending the year on a six-game losing streak. Sanders could also be peeved over CBS calling him more of an entertainer than a head coach in an article early last month.
Sanders didn’t stop at just taking a shot at CBS but also refusing to answer a question from Denver Post reporter Sean Keeler. “You don’t like us, man. Why do you do this to yourself? You don’t like us… What did I do? Why are you always on the attack?” Keeler has been hypercritical of Sanders during his tenure with the Buffaloes, going as far as calling the once Jackson State head coach a “False Prophet” and the “Bruce Lee of B.S.”
Coach Prime: Entering Second Year with Colorado Football
If anyone else had taken over for Colorado football last season, they would have earned national applause for a three-win increase from the previous year. However, after a 4-8 season in his inaugural season and more than tripling the team’s winning percentage from the prior year, Sanders was criticized for the team’s lack of competitiveness to end the year. Colorado lost six straight games to end the season and eight of their last nine, failing to make a bowl game for the third consecutive year.
However, the Buffaloes expect to increase their win total again in 2024. Coach Prime and the Buffs will return the dynamic duo of quarterback Shedeur Sanders and two-way megastar Travis Hunter. The younger Sanders threw for 3,230 yards, 27 touchdowns, and three picks last year. Meanwhile, Hunter earned All-American status in 2023 for a 57-reception, 30-tackle crusade.
